Enlightenment Dance Mission
Statement
To awake the dancer within, to have fun, to
exercise, to embrace the art of fusion dance style
as it is ever evolving and changing. To promote
through the Art of Dancing: wellness, friendship,
personal growth and health in all aspects including
mental, physical and spiritual; improving the
quality of life of the members of the school and to
bring acceptance, love, and respect for every human
being as they are and the uniqueness of each other's
path.
Enlightenment Dance
is not to be described but to be experienced. It is
a series of dance classes designed to promote
self-awareness of the body, mind and spirit. The
body is lost if it does not have the spirit. The
spirit is lost if it does not feel the body.
Enlightenment Dance
can be fast or slow; sensual or playful; with the
guidance of rehearsed steps or free with no verbal
instructions; choreographed or spontaneous; it can
be a prayer of the body to reach the deepest levels
of the soul, or, a celebration of the spirit to
enjoy the moments of life. The movements used are
influenced by the movements of many cultures,
particularly of the Middle East, India and Brazil.
The music is from around the world.
It’s an inner exploration of conscious movement
that uncovers the essence of Belly Dance, Dynamic
Meditation and much more!
It’s a bare-foot and bare-soul dance with a
creative costume for the body! It’s fun and joyful,
above anything else! It teaches us to be in the
moment, to live life in ecstasy and to appreciate
what we have here and now. It is a dance of feelings
and healings that captures the magic of being and
feeling alive.

THE
BENEFITS OF ENLIGHTENMENT
DANCING
Enlightenment Dance
promotes physical, mental
and emotional healing. By
enhancing your intimate
connection with Spirit, it
may increase insights about
your well-being, what you
are feeling, and life in
general. It can help make
you more aware of influences
in your life and how you
react to them.
At the physical level, this dance
promotes flexibility, muscular toning, strength and
good posture. Enlightenment Dance is not based on
the idea of tensing muscles, as in some other
western dance forms (such as ballet); it is actually
the reverse: you do not have to be tense to be in
control. Your body can be relaxed and still be in
perfect control of your movement. This lesson can be
applied to other aspects of our lives, as well…just
by acknowledging the truth that we do not need to be
tense to be in control, but the opposite, very
relaxed into the core of our being.
At the emotional level, Enlightenment
Dance banishes insecurities, tensions, and emotional
blocks, thus promoting creativity, confidence,
freedom and sensuality.
At the mental level, it develops
concentration, mind/body coordination, intuition,
and relaxation.
This dance also has a soothing, hypnotic effect on
the audience, helping to relax and heal them as
well. Healing occurs because the mind steps away
from its rationality and allows the spirit to be in
the moment where perfection resides. Beholding the
dance, the audience is captivated to share the bliss
of the dancer. There is a communion of energy and
spiritual bounding that emerges in a kindred way
throughout the performance.
The movements are performed in isolation, with
parts of the body moving independently. It involves
geometric shapes, such as spirals, infinity signs,
and circles. These shapes are related to nature
symbolism and subconscious archetypes that connect
us to our humanity and divinity, and promote a sense
of unity between dancer and audience. This is
because all these forms are infused in nature, in
our bodies, and in the heavenly bodies. You can see
them in turtle shells, spider webs, snakes, trees,
the cells in our bodies, on our finger prints, and
in the galaxies! We are part of all these nature
aspects, and dancing the symbolism awakes this
relationship with nature, mostly forgotten in our
modern life.
This dance promotes a feeling of unity, of eternity
and of belonging, something that we all long for. So
dance to your heart's content! It not only feels
good, and is therapeutic, but your audience will
feel the healing as well!
